InfraCore, which operated as a council-controlled organisation (CCO) since 2015, has been transitioned back into Rotorua Lakes Council. The change took effect 1 November 2024.
All of the services that were provided under the CCO arrangement are continuing and there is no change for the public – people will still contact Rotorua Lakes Council to report the likes of water leaks.
Services include maintenance of public gardens, sports fields and reserves, operating the cemetery and crematorium, city cleaning, maintaining the water network, roading and footpath maintenance, and operating the nursery in Government Gardens which is open to the public as well as supplying other councils.
The decision to bring these services back into the council organisation was prompted by a challenging operating environment and the need to ensure the most efficient service delivery for the community and ratepayers.
