Holidays Act Recalculation

Rotorua Lakes Council (RLC) has identified a number of payroll-related issues which, over time, have resulted in some staff receiving incorrect payments.

The issues relate to the payments of, and entitlements to, leave under the Holidays Act 2003 (annual, bereavement, alternative, public holiday, sick and special leave) and the way these have been interpreted and calculated.

This issue applies to current and former staff at RLC and its Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs), Rotorua Economic Development (RED) and InfraCore, who were employed from 2 December 2013 to 3 May 2021. This also applies to staff who were employed under the trading names Rotorua District Council, Destination Rotorua, i-Site, Rotorua Contracting or Castlecorp.

Following an external independent review, some of our current and former staff are now owed recalculation payments.

The situation is not unique to RLC, RED or InfraCore. Other public and private sector organisations have experienced similar issues and are undertaking, or have completed, similar recalculation processes.

In late May, all current staff at RLC, RED and InfraCore will be informed as to whether or not they are owed a recalculation payment.

The process for former staff members of RLC, RED and InfraCore is outlined below.
